Scholar Class descriptions

Great Souls, mentored by Angie Craven, Cheryl Walser, Cherstie Woolf, Jennifer Fife, and Alesia Egan
This is a class created by Marie Arnold for our older scholars.  She took our favorite things about TJEd High and other feedback and things we had learned and rolled them up into a great class where we will do reading, writing, discussion, presentations, etc.  Following is a description:
Great Souls and the Good Life in World History and Literature
Throughout history and the world's literature, we find authors discussing questions like: What is happiness? What is virtue?  What makes a great soul? What is the good life?
To what conclusions do these authors come?  What ideas do they share?  What truths do they all come to in their explorations of these questions?
What do we see in common in the lives of truly great men and women?
These are the questions we will explore through the eyes of various authors and the lives of people in history. Ages 14+

Sword of Freedom, mentored by Lou Anne Randall, Kristen Nevins, and Andrea Barney
This LEMI class, meant to be taken after Our Story, delves into the history of the Civil War and World Wars I & II.  Sword class this year will have many exciting and engaging innovations and updates!  Age 13+

Our Story: Founding and Framing Freedom, mentored by Marie Arnold and Angela Adair
This is Marie Arnold's new class in the tradition of Key of Liberty, where we study the American Revolution and founding.  Get ready for a fantastic class with a flexible reading list, more simulations, and lots of inspiring activities focused on our nation's founding.  Ages 12+

Shield of Freedom, mentored by Nicole Warren, LeShell Murray, and Tia Fawson
A class for practice scholars to work on reading, writing, and other scholarly skills, as well as building integrity and courage.  Based around the timeless tales of Narnia and The Lord of the Rings. Ages 11-12

YE Shakespeare, mentored by Andrea Morgan and Jennifer Bush
A fantastic and fun leadership class where we study Shakespeare and put on our own play!  More info on this class at www.yeshakespeare.com .  Ages 12-14

Principles and Communications, mentored by Marie Arnold and Tia Fawson
In this class, students will learn about many forms of communication and methods of influence.  What's more, we will focus on true principles that are worth communicating!  A very relevant class!  Ages 14+

Current Events, mentored by Todd and Ruth Hailstone
This is a class for older scholars that have already taken Principles and Communications and are interested in current events.  This class will use current events for real-world instruction, as well as debate and simulations.  Ages 15+
